Alzheimer and Related Disease Registry

Purpose of Registry

The purpose of the Registry is to develop a database of individuals with Alzheimer`s Disease and Related Dementias. Its goal is to enhance the ability of the Alzheimer Society of Newfoundland and Labrador to provide programs and services, to respond to the needs of those affected by the disease and to offer support to families and caregivers.

Registry Objectives

  • To improve the strategic planning and delivery of the society’s programs and services.

  • To ensure programs and services are available to individuals with Alzheimer`s Disease and caregivers throughout the province.

  • To provide statistical information to empower the Alzheimer Society to advocate on behalf of those affected.

  • To develop a resource for future research.

Benefits

  • Determine which specific areas within the province have an expressed need for the services provided by society.

  • Improve the society’s ability to identify regions that have seen a significant increase in individuals suffering from Alzheimer`s Disease.

  • Respond more effectively to requests and advocate for any necessary changes to particular areas or services.

Confidentially of Information Collected

Strict confidentially policies and procedures have been implemented in order to ensure the protection of the registrant’s information. Two types of data will be collected:1) core data sets include name, date of birth, address and phone number, diagnosis and identification of caregiver’s relationship to the individual. 2) Supplementary data sets include programs and services used, socioeconomic data and impairments (vision, hearing, etc.)
