Host a Fundraiser

The Alzheimer Society of Newfoundland and Labrador is very fortunate to have the support of many community groups, businesses, and organizations who generously give their time and expertise to host fundraising events to help support our mission. We would like to thank them for their continued support in helping make a difference in the lives of someone with Alzheimer’s disease in Newfoundland and Labrador. For more information on some of these events or if you are interested in participating, please see below:

Annual Herbert J. Powell Golf Tournament – The Atlantic Distributors group in Bay Roberts generously gives their time and support to organize an annual golf tournament in memory of Herbert J. Powell. This event is an excellent way to pay tribute to someone special in their lives and to raise awareness in the community. It is a great day of golf followed with an evening of fun! Many thanks to all the organizers who share their time to make a difference in the community to help those affected within the province.

Coldwell Banker Pro Co Community Pledge for Charity - On August 14th, 2011, Gavon Russell and Jeremy Reynolds ran 42km to raise funds for the Alzheimer Society in support of Coldwell Banker Pro Co. This event had raised a total of $6,101.78 and we couldn’t thank everyone enough for their hard work and participation. Both Jeremy and Gavon’s families have been affected by Alzheimer’s, like many others, and their goal was to promote collective community awareness of the social and personal impact of neurodegenerative diseases.

Churchill Falls Card Game – Each year two very dedicated volunteers give their time to organize an annual card game in the Churchill Falls area. They host an evening of fun with lots of great prizes for those in attendance. This event has become a community event that helps us continue our programs and services throughout the province.

Hot Chocolate Day – Five high schools in the St. John’s area have shown their community spirit by selling hot chocolate during their exam time to help boost brain health for their fellow students and to raise awareness in their school of our programs and services.

Jeans Day – Many corporations show their support to our organization through hosting a jeans days within their offices. This is a great fun way businesses can build team spirit within the workplace and an excellent opportunity to support charities in the community. We really appreciate the support of businesses and the employees for this event.

Monte Carlo Night - MUN Medical Students chose us as one of the charities to be contributed to for their exciting Monte Carlo Charity Gala event. They donated $13,900 from their occasion! MUN’s Faculty of Medicine presented their 35th annual Monte Carlo Charity Gala, on Saturday, November 19th, 2011, at the St. John's Convention Centre. "Cirque de la Soirée" was a glamorous, black tie night filled with music and entertainment, plus a variety of games and auctions with many fabulous prizes to be won. We were so fortunate to be one of the charities chosen for this event, and it truly was a fabulous evening! Thank you so much for your support!

Musical MemoriesThe Cavendish 50 Plus Club and Avalon Sleeveens raised $1,005 from their fabulous Musical Memories event! In November 2011, this amazing social group had a band of performers from Dildo called the Avalon Sleeveens to present their concert of Musical Memories and helped raise just over a thousand dollars for the Alzheimer Society of NL. It was a fantastic evening with 250 tickets pre sold for the concert. ”We are a 50 Plus Club and chances are some of our members will develop some form of dementia down the road; unfortunately that is the reality of life. We can only hope that there will be more advances in the early diagnoses of the disease as well as treatment to stop the progression and eventually a cure.”

Quilt Ticket Draw – a family donated a very beautiful homemade quilt and sold tickets to raise awareness and funds in conjunction with their annual coffee break. It was a wonderful quilt that was very much appreciated by the winner.

50/50 Draw – a local business opted to organize a 50/50 draw in their workplace to support a local charity with a great prize for those who purchased tickets.
